We called him Pepper Jack
Stuck in a traffic jam
Waiting for the light to turn
Cars slip by you
Like a horse with blinds
Its madness
As the light turns green
Walk into the door
Smell the remnants
Of passerby's
The waft that meets your nose
Your brain, your soul
Talks to you more like a sound
You could be happy
You could be more than a sound
More than a car, more than a light
Like the sun, the stars in the night
If you just held on, you klutzy knight
I can see as the wind pushes you
Only slightly to the left
And the colours falling dumbly to your
Abstractly large cleft.
Today it was easy not to sit around
What with the monkeys up and round
But I couldn't ignore the swish of the water
As it pounded against the glass.
Found it easy to learn
That water has form
Leaps over the rim
And speaks
Do you dream?
Can you see?
Are you an idiot?
You ain't never coming
Back to where you are real
You are inside the glass
Hearing only the sound that pounds
Into your home with enough force
To drop a God to His knees
Found it difficult to eat
Especially with the lump
Ingrained in this throat
And hard in this heart.
Step out onto the patio
Where the sad streetlight
Was sad for you
And it said
O terrible, O terrifying
You victim, you poor thing
Let me hold you, embrace you
Watch over you
You poor thing
Its not your fault
Step back inside
Found it easy to fall asleep
In the abstract world
Where this soul called home
This mouth said
The past is locked in memories
And I am nothing without my past
Locked in a cage clawing to get out
I am nothing, I am everything
I am special, I am average
That is what is written on the walls here.
It took time to get used to the dark,
The odorless and numb.
But I have the key
I call it my future.
